When to pick WPS Office
You live in Microsoft-formatted files, you want PDF tools without Acrobat, and you can ignore or pay to remove ads. Windows 7 is still listed on Kingsoft’s Windows page, which matters if a lab PC cannot move to Windows 10. Students after campus Microsoft 365 expires are the usual audience. Freelancers who edit .xlsx on Android and the same file on a PC also fit.
When to stay on Microsoft 365
You need Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and company OneDrive as one stack. Macro-heavy workbooks and strict IT catalogs often stay on Microsoft. WPS can still be the home PC app for the same .docx files. Do not tell a finance team to drop Excel because a blog said WPS is “the same”.
When LibreOffice is the better fit
You want open source, no ads, and you can tolerate occasional layout drift on complex Office files. LibreOffice does not replace a dedicated PDF editor the way WPS does. Locked-down PCs that forbid closed-source office suites belong here.
